A considerable number of graduates take up a doctorate after having received their final university degree. With the PhD title at hand, they strive to continue a research career or to get into responsible positions in economy or society outside the university.
However, PhD candidates have to thoroughly reflect on their motivation for receiving a doctoral degree and for potentially taking up a further scientific career afterwards. For example, they should evaluate whether their competences, personality, and aims in life fit better with a career in science or with an occupation outside academia.
The participants of this workshop will interactively deal with the following topics:
- The doctorate as a step into a career in science or into responsible positions in economy or society outside the university
- The specifics and preconditions of a further career in science after the PhD
- Individual decision-making and target achievements with regard to a scientific career or a career outside the university
